What to See on Koh Thmei
The Three Beaches
Koh Thmei’s coastline is broken into three distinct yellow-sand beaches, each shaded by pine trees rather than the palms typical elsewhere on Cambodia’s coast — a small but distinctive detail that makes the island feel different from its neighbours.
The Reef
A coral fringe surrounds parts of the island, offering some of the clearest snorkelling conditions in the Ream National Park area — bring your own gear, as rental options are limited this far out.
Ream National Park Waters
Koh Thmei sits within Ream National Park’s marine boundary, so the boat ride out often doubles as a chance to spot the mangrove-lined estuary and, in season, Irrawaddy dolphins.
How to Get to Koh Thmei
There’s no scheduled ferry — access is by chartered or park-arranged boat, usually combined with a Ream National Park tour from Sihanoukville (around an hour each way). Ask at the Ream National Park visitor centre or a Sihanoukville tour operator about boat hire to the island; expect to negotiate a price for a half-day or full-day charter.
Practical Tips
- There is minimal infrastructure on the island — bring water, sun protection, and snacks
- Phone signal is unreliable; treat this as a genuinely off-grid half-day or overnight trip
- Combine with a Ream National Park mangrove tour to make the most of the boat charter
