What to See at Ream National Park
The Mangrove Channels
A boat trip through Ream’s mangrove waterways is the park’s centrepiece — narrow green corridors opening onto wider estuary, with birdlife along the banks and a calm, completely different pace from Sihanoukville just down the coast.
Koh Thmei Island
The eastern third of the park includes Koh Thmei and Koh Seh, low-key islands with quiet, undeveloped beaches — a contrasting alternative to the more touristed Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem further offshore.
Wildlife
Ream’s waters and wetlands support dugongs, Irrawaddy dolphins, sea turtles, rhesus monkeys, and Sarus cranes, alongside the 277m Phnom Mollou peak inland. None of these are guaranteed sightings, but the habitat diversity packed into one accessible park is unusual for coastal Cambodia.
How to Get to Ream National Park
The park entrance is around 18km from Sihanoukville by road.
- From Sihanoukville: Tuk-tuk or arranged transport to the park’s visitor/boat access point
- Boat tours: Most visitors book a half-day mangrove boat trip through a Sihanoukville-based operator, which includes transport
- To Koh Thmei: Boats depart from the park’s coastal access points; arrange in advance as schedules are limited
Best Time to Visit
Dry season (November–April) offers calmer water for the mangrove boat trips and a better chance of comfortable island time on Koh Thmei.
Practical Information
- Entry fee reports vary between sources — bring small USD notes and confirm the current rate on arrival
- Boat trips are the best way to see the park; the road network reaches only the fringes
- Bring sun protection and water — shade is limited once out on the water
- Combine with a beach day if visiting Koh Thmei, as boat transport there is a dedicated trip rather than a quick add-on
Nearby Attractions
Sihanoukville’s beaches and the ferry departure point for Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem are all close by, making Ream an easy detour from a Preah Sihanouk islands itinerary.
