What to See on Rabbit Island
The Main Beach
A curve of white sand facing the mainland, lined with simple family-run restaurants on stilts serving the day’s catch — squid, crab, and fish grilled or fried to order. This is the social centre of the island, such as it is.
Around the Island
A rough coastal path circles Koh Tonsay in a few hours on foot, passing smaller, emptier coves and the rocky outcrop that gives the island its rabbit-shaped silhouette when viewed from Kep.
Overnight Huts
A handful of basic bamboo bungalows let you stay past the day-tripper crowd — sunset and sunrise with almost no one else on the beach is the main draw of staying over.
How to Get to Rabbit Island
Wooden boats leave from Kep’s pier near the crab market, taking about 20 minutes each way. Boats run informally through the morning and early afternoon — buy a return ticket at the pier (~$7–8 round trip) and confirm the last return time with your boatman, since there’s no fixed schedule.
Practical Tips
- Bring cash — there are no ATMs on the island
- Food is simple and fresh but slow; relax into island time rather than expecting fast service
- If staying overnight, electricity is generator-powered and limited to a few evening hours
- Bring water shoes — parts of the seabed near shore are rocky
Nearby Attractions
- Kep Crab Market — the pier and market where boats to the island depart
- Kep Beach — the mainland’s own quiet stretch of sand, a short walk from town
