What to See at Kep Beach
The Beach Crescent
A long, narrow strip of sand facing the Gulf of Thailand, busiest with local visitors on weekends and quiet on weekdays. The water is calm and shallow — good for wading rather than serious swimming.
The Crab Statue
Kep’s unofficial landmark, a giant crab sculpture standing in the water just off the beach — the photo stop every visitor ends up taking.
Villa Ruins Backdrop
The beach is framed by the hillside above, scattered with the same haunting 1960s villa ruins found elsewhere in Kep — abandoned during the Khmer Rouge era and never rebuilt.
How to Get to Kep Beach
Kep Beach is walkable from anywhere in central Kep town — most guesthouses are within 10–15 minutes on foot. Tuk-tuks are available for a small fare if coming from further out.
Practical Tips
- The beach itself is modest by Cambodian coastal standards — most visitors treat it as a stroll and snack stop rather than a swimming destination
- Street food stalls along the road behind the beach are some of the best casual eating in Kep
- Best visited in the late afternoon, when the heat eases and the light turns golden
Nearby Attractions
- Kep Crab Market — a short walk or tuk-tuk ride along the coast road
- Rabbit Island (Koh Tonsay) — boats depart from the nearby pier
