About
Why Visit Kandal?
Kandal is one of Cambodia’s most populated provinces and also one of its most overlooked by visitors. Wrapping around the capital, it offers a peaceful counterpoint to Phnom Penh’s intensity — and some of the most accessible authentic Cambodian village life in the country.
Koh Dach (Silk Island)
A short ferry ride from Phnom Penh, Koh Dach (Silk Island) is home to traditional silk weaving communities who have produced Khmer silk for generations. Cycle between workshops, watch weavers at the loom, and buy directly from the artisans. The island’s flat lanes make it perfect for exploring by bicycle, and the riverside setting — with views back to Phnom Penh’s skyline — is quietly beautiful.
Udong
Udong served as Cambodia’s royal capital for over 200 years before Phnom Penh took over in the 19th century. The hilltop stupas hold the ashes of several Khmer kings and offer panoramic views over the rice plains stretching to the Tonle Sap. It is a working pilgrimage site with a genuine sense of spiritual significance.
