About
Why Visit Tboung Khmum?
Tboung Khmum is rarely on any tourist itinerary, which is precisely what makes it interesting for travelers who want to see Cambodia as it actually is. The province was only established in 2014 when Kampong Cham was divided, and its administrative identity is still young.
Rubber Plantations
The province’s economy is dominated by rubber — vast plantations of Hevea trees whose latex was first cultivated here under French colonial rule. Early morning drives through the plantations, when tappers make their rounds scoring the bark to collect the milky latex, reveal a working landscape little changed from the early 20th century.
Mekong Villages
The eastern bank of the Mekong running through the province features a series of fishing villages accessible by ferry. The villages maintain traditional fishing practices including large circular nets and bamboo fish traps, and the riverside life — boats, nets, evening fires — is photogenic and unhurried.
