About
Why Visit Kampong Cham?
Kampong Cham sits on the west bank of the Mekong, connected to the island of Koh Paen by one of Cambodia’s most famous bamboo bridges — rebuilt every dry season and swept away every green season. The city has a quiet, lived-in elegance, its French colonial shophouses faded but charming.
Wat Nokor
The most compelling sight in the province is Wat Nokor — a 12th-century pre-Angkorian sandstone temple that has been partly absorbed into a working modern Buddhist pagoda. Monks chant in the central shrine; carved lintels from the Khmer Empire frame doorways leading to incense-scented prayer halls. It is an extraordinary collision of ancient and living Cambodia.
Koh Paen
The island of Koh Paen, reached via the seasonal bamboo bridge, offers a glimpse of rural Mekong life — villages, vegetable gardens, and riverbank sunsets that draw local families in the evening. Hire a bicycle to explore.
Phnom Pros & Phnom Srei
Two small hills on the edge of town, each topped with a stupa, are local pilgrimage sites with panoramic views over the rubber plantations that carpet much of the province.
