About

Why Visit Stung Treng?

Stung Treng is one of Cambodia’s most peaceful provincial capitals — a riverside town where life moves at the rhythm of the Mekong. The confluence of several major rivers here creates an extraordinary riverine landscape of islands, channels, and rapids that sees remarkably few visitors.

Irrawaddy Dolphins

The pool below the Lao border at Anlong Cheuteal is home to one of the last Mekong populations of critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. Unlike the more famous dolphin pool at Kratie, the Stung Treng dolphins are in a more remote setting, often visible in pairs at dawn. Responsible dolphin-watching boat trips can be arranged from town.

Mekong Discovery Trail

The Mekong Discovery Trail — a series of mapped cycling and kayaking routes through river islands, fishing villages, and rapids — is arguably best experienced in the Stung Treng section. River islands with camping spots, freshwater beaches, and extraordinary sunsets make this one of Cambodia’s great hidden outdoor destinations.
