What to See at the MGC Museum
The Sampot Collection
The museum’s centrepiece is a permanent collection of reproduction vintage sampot — the wrap-around skirt that is Cambodia’s defining traditional garment — woven in authentic Khmer ikat patterns taken from documented historic pieces. Sampot hol and sampot phamuong, two named regional weaving styles, are both represented.
Mekong–Ganga Textile Traditions
Beyond Cambodia, the museum’s wider collection traces textile traditions across the Mekong–Ganga region (Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam), giving useful context for how Khmer weaving fits into a broader regional craft.
Weaving Demonstrations
Live weaving demonstrations run periodically, showing the ikat dyeing-and-tying technique behind the patterns on display — a useful complement to seeing the finished sampot in the main galleries.
