What to See on Koh Sdach
The Fishing Village
Koh Sdach’s only settlement is a real working fishing village, not a resort strip — boats lining the shore, the day’s catch sold and dried along the waterfront, and a slower pace of life than almost anywhere else on Cambodia’s coast.
The Wider Archipelago
South of the main island, a cluster of 12 small islands makes up the Koh Sdach archipelago. Hire a local boat to reach Koh Totang, the sand spits of the Koh Ampil islets, or the long white beaches on either side of Koh Smach — most are uninhabited and rarely visited.
Snorkelling & Diving
The clear waters around the archipelago have decent coral coverage for snorkelling, with some dive operators running trips out from the mainland.
How to Get to Koh Sdach
From Phnom Penh or Koh Kong town, take a bus or minivan toward Andoung Tuek (around 3 hours from Phnom Penh, 2 hours from Koh Kong town). Get off about 6km before Andoung Tuek and catch a local minibus to Poi Yopon pier (around $7.50 per person, roughly an hour along a paved road). From Poi Yopon, a resort or village boat covers the final 15-minute crossing to the island.
Practical Tips
- This route involves several legs — allow a full travel day from Phnom Penh
- Confirm your boat transfer with your accommodation in advance; Poi Yopon pier has no scheduled public ferry
- Bring cash; facilities on the island are basic and card payment is rare
- Pack for a simple, off-grid stay — this isn’t a resort destination
Nearby Attractions
- Koh Totang — a quieter island in the same archipelago, reached by local boat
