What to See at La Plantation
The Pepper Vines
Kampot pepper grows as a climbing vine trained up wooden poles, and the free guided walk (English, French, and Khmer) explains the full cycle — planting, the slow three-year wait for a first harvest, and how the same berry becomes black, white, red, or green pepper depending on when it’s picked and how it’s processed.
The Tasting
Every tour ends with a tasting of the farm’s own black, white, red, and green pepper in the restaurant and shop — a genuinely useful way to taste the difference before buying, since genuine Kampot pepper (PGI-certified) varies noticeably between the four forms.
Beyond the Tour
The farm also runs short cooking classes built around pepper, and buffalo-cart rides out to a nearby lake — good ways to extend a visit beyond the standard walk.
How to Get to La Plantation
La Plantation is about 19km from Kampot town, roughly 30 minutes by road.
- Farm shuttle van: Departs from the farm’s office in Kampot at 9am and 11:30am daily, $7 USD round trip per person, returning in the afternoon
- Tuk-tuk: Around $25 USD return with an English-speaking driver
- Moto: $10–15 USD return for confident riders
Practical Tips
- The walking tour is free; only food, drinks, and shop purchases cost extra
- Wear closed shoes and sun protection — the vine rows have little shade
- Genuine Kampot pepper carries PGI certification; buying directly from the farm guarantees authenticity
- Combine with a Kampot riverside sunset cruise on the same day — both sit on the same side of town
Nearby Attractions
- Kampot River — the riverside town centre, a short drive back toward Kampot
- Tek Chhouu Waterfall — a popular local swimming spot in the same direction out of town
