The Trek to Tree Top
Through the Pines
Kirirom’s plateau is unique in Cambodia — open pine woodland at around 700m, more Da Lat than Mekong. The Tree Top trail runs roughly 3km each way through this forest: soft needle-carpet underfoot, resin in the air, and a landscape that repeatedly makes visitors forget which country they’re in.
The Viewpoint
The trail ends at the plateau’s edge, where the ground falls away and the view opens across ridges of evergreen towards the plains of Kampong Speu. Early light is best for photography; late afternoon adds haze but softer colour.
Guided by Design
The trek is run as a guided activity with a local guide and forest ranger included — partly for navigation (plateau trails braid confusingly), partly because ranger presence is how the park keeps its trails and wildlife protected. Arrange it at vKirirom Pine Resort.
How to Get There
The trailhead is on the Kirirom plateau, inside Kirirom National Park — about 2 to 2.5 hours from Phnom Penh via National Road 4.
- Base yourself at the park: Book the trek at vKirirom Pine Resort; combine with an overnight for a morning departure
- Day trip: Possible from Phnom Penh with an early start
Practical Tips
- Wear real shoes — the final approach crosses bare rock
- Carry at least a litre of water each; there are no stops
- Mornings are cool and clear; midday treks earn their sweat
- The 6km round trip is family-manageable but not stroller territory
