Cambodia’s luxury tier is genuinely world-class — and underused, since most visitors travel on a backpacker or mid-range budget. This route uses private guides, five-star stays and a private island to see the same essential sights as every other itinerary, just without a single queue, shared tuk-tuk, or public bus.
Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap
Afternoon: Private transfer from the airport to Amansara — a former royal villa turned all-suite resort minutes from Angkor — or Shinta Mani Angkor for its design-forward rooms and Bensley-designed pool villas.
Evening: A private dining setup arranged through the hotel, often poolside or in a temple-adjacent garden setting.
Stay: Amansara or Shinta Mani Angkor, Siem Reap.
Day 2: Private Angkor Wat
5:00 AM: A private guide and driver take you to a less-crowded vantage point for Angkor Wat sunrise — Amansara and Shinta Mani both arrange exclusive early access angles away from the main reflecting pools.
Morning: A private, unhurried tour of Angkor Thom and the Bayon, timed to avoid tour-group crowds.
Midday: Return to the resort for a long lunch and a spa treatment during the heat of the day.
Afternoon: Ta Prohm, visited late in the day when most tour groups have left.
Evening: Private dinner, often with a tasting menu built around Khmer ingredients.
Stay: Siem Reap.
Day 3: Remote Temples & Hot-Air Balloon
Morning: Private visit to Banteay Srei and the remote Beng Mealea, a jungle-swallowed temple that sees a fraction of Angkor’s visitor numbers, with a personal guide and air-conditioned vehicle throughout.
Afternoon: Hot-air balloon ride over the Angkor Archaeological Park (seasonal, weather-dependent) for an aerial view most visitors never see.
Evening: Final Siem Reap dinner — a private chef’s table experience at Cuisine Wat Damnak.
Stay: Siem Reap.
Day 4: Siem Reap → Phnom Penh
Morning: Private chartered flight or first-class domestic flight to Phnom Penh.
Afternoon: Private guided tour of the Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda, then check into Raffles Hotel Le Royal — Phnom Penh’s grand colonial-era hotel.
Evening: Cocktails at the hotel’s Elephant Bar, followed by dinner at Malis.
Stay: Raffles Hotel Le Royal, Phnom Penh.
Day 5: Phnom Penh — History & Mekong Cruise
Morning: A private, paced visit to Tuol Sleng and Choeung Ek with a knowledgeable guide who can contextualise the history sensitively.
Afternoon: Private Mekong river cruise on a restored wooden boat, with drinks and canapés, watching the city from the water at golden hour.
Evening: Dinner at a private dining room or rooftop restaurant overlooking the river.
Stay: Phnom Penh.
Day 6: Phnom Penh → Song Saa Private Island
Morning: Private transfer to Sihanoukville, then a speedboat transfer (arranged by the resort) to Song Saa Private Island — Cambodia’s only private-island luxury resort, with overwater and jungle villas across two islets in the Koh Rong archipelago.
Afternoon/Evening: Settle in. Sunset cocktails on your villa deck.
Stay: Song Saa Private Island.
Day 7: Island Time
All day: Spa treatments, a private sunset cruise around the archipelago, snorkelling on the resort’s house reef, or simply nothing at all — most guests come to Song Saa specifically to do less.
Stay: Song Saa Private Island.
Day 8: Departure
Morning: A final breakfast on your villa deck.
Midday: Private speedboat back to the mainland and a chartered or first-class flight onward.
Practical Notes
Best booked through: A specialist Cambodia luxury travel agent or directly through the resorts — Amansara, Shinta Mani, Raffles and Song Saa all offer bespoke itinerary planning as part of a stay.
Budget guide:
- This itinerary assumes $400–800+/day per person, covering five-star accommodation, private guiding, and one private-island stay.
- A mid-range version of the same route (good hotels, shared guides) runs $150–250/day — see our 10–12 day Temples & Beach itinerary for that version.
Book ahead: Song Saa Private Island and Amansara both have limited room counts and should be booked 2–3 months ahead in peak season (Nov–Feb).
