About
Why Visit Pursat?
Pursat is positioned at the transition between the Tonle Sap floodplain and the Cardamom highland wilderness, giving the province a remarkable range of landscapes. The provincial capital sits on the Pursat River, a calm town with a riverside market and Buddhist temples.
Kompong Luong Floating Village
One of Cambodia’s largest floating villages, Kompong Luong is a genuine floating community on the Tonle Sap — schools, restaurants, mechanics, and markets all on pontoons. The village moves seasonally with the lake’s water level. Boat tours can be arranged from the dock at Krakor.
Cardamom Access
The road south from Pursat town leads into the northern Cardamom Mountains, passing through the Chi Kraeng forest corridor — a critical wildlife route connecting protected areas. With a local guide, overnight trekking into the mountains is possible. This is one of the least-visited sections of the Cardamoms and one of the best for wildlife encounters.
Phnom Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary
Deeper into the highlands, around the remote Veal Veng plateau, Phnom Samkos protects over 3,300 sq km of Cardamom wilderness around Cambodia’s second-highest peak. Tourism here runs entirely through the community-run Osoam Cardamom Community Center — genuinely off the beaten path, reached by rough roads roughly 125km west of Pursat town.
