What to See Along Sisowath Quay
The Promenade
A wide paved walkway running along the riverfront opposite the Royal Palace, popular with joggers and families by day and a much bigger evening crowd after the heat breaks — vendors sell grilled corn, sugar cane juice and snacks the length of it.
The Bar and Café Strip
The streets facing the river are lined with bars, restaurants and cafés ranging from backpacker-friendly to upscale, many with river-view terraces — a natural place to nurse a sundowner.
River Traffic
Fishing boats, ferries and the occasional party boat pass constantly, especially busy around the confluence point known locally as Chaktomuk (“four faces”), where the Tonle Sap, Mekong, and Bassac rivers meet.
How to Get to Sisowath Quay
The riverfront runs the length of central Phnom Penh, directly in front of the Royal Palace.
- On foot: The easiest way to experience it — walkable from most central hotels
- Tuk-tuk: A short ride from anywhere in the city
Practical Tips
- Keep bags on the side away from the road and away from passing motorbikes — petty theft is the main risk here
- Sunset (roughly 5:30–6:30pm depending on season) is the single best time to be on the riverside
- Combine with dinner at one of the riverside restaurants, or a short walk to the Night Market on weekends
Nearby Attractions
- Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda — directly across the road
- Phnom Penh Night Market — on the riverfront, Friday–Sunday evenings only
