What to See at the Russian Market
Inside the Market
A dense, hot, covered market selling clothing, souvenirs, silk, jewellery, antiques, electronics, and even spare motorbike parts — wander without a fixed plan and good finds turn up. It’s noticeably smaller and more local than the Central Market, with less aggressive selling.
The Food Stalls
The market is also one of Phnom Penh’s best-regarded spots for kuyteav (Cambodian noodle soup), with stalls inside and around the edges serving locals as much as visitors — a good, cheap breakfast or lunch stop.
Around the Edges
Outside, fresh produce stalls and factory-outlet clothing shops ring the covered market, spilling onto the surrounding streets of the Toul Tom Poung neighbourhood.
How to Get to the Russian Market
The market is in the Toul Tom Poung area, south of central Phnom Penh.
- Tuk-tuk or Grab: The standard way in — just say “Phsar Toul Tom Poung” and any driver will know it
- On foot: Walkable from BKK1, around 15–20 minutes
Practical Tips
- Arrive early morning to beat the heat and the worst of the crowds
- Haggling is expected — start well below the asking price, especially on souvenirs and clothing
- Bring cash in small denominations
- Pair with a stop in BKK1 for lunch or a coffee afterwards
