What to See in the Street Art Quarter
The Murals
Local and international artists have covered colonial-era facades around Psar Nat with everything from bold social commentary to tributes to Cambodian folklore — no two blocks look the same, and new work appears between festival editions.
S’Art Urban Art Festival
A biennial, community-driven event (S’art means “beautiful” in Khmer) that has brought international street artists to Battambang since its first edition, leaving behind a growing permanent collection across the town’s backstreets. Recent standout works include the “Hello Battambang” mural and a Khmer–Japanese “Cultural Transection” piece on Pub Street.
Psar Nat and the Surrounding Grid
The murals radiate out from Psar Nat (Battambang’s 1936 Art Deco central market), so a walk through the art quarter pairs naturally with browsing the market itself.
How to Get to the Street Art Quarter
The murals are concentrated in the streets immediately around Psar Nat, in central Battambang.
- On foot: The best way to see it — entirely walkable, and most interesting at a slow pace
- Bicycle: Also a good option for covering more ground
Practical Tips
- Go on foot rather than by tuk-tuk — the appeal is in the side streets and alleys, not the main roads
- Combine with a visit to Psar Nat for market food and people-watching
- New murals appear after each S’Art festival edition, so even repeat visitors find something new
